Some stories stay with you long after you leave a home, and this is one of them.
When I think about Alexis’s journey into motherhood, the first word that comes to mind is strength. Not the kind that’s loud or attention-seeking, but the quiet, enduring kind that shows up day after day, even when your body is exhausted and your spirit is tested. Alexis was sick her entire pregnancy—every single day, right up until the moment she gave birth. It’s hard to fully put into words what that kind of perseverance looks like unless you’ve lived it, but witnessing even a glimpse of it is deeply humbling.
Pregnancy is often painted in soft light—glowing skin, gentle anticipation, peaceful moments of connection. But for Alexis, it was a season of grit. A season of pushing through discomfort, of showing up for her baby even when she felt her worst. And that’s what makes her story so powerful. Because motherhood doesn’t begin at birth—it begins in those unseen sacrifices, in the resilience it takes to carry life even when it feels impossibly hard.
Women are incredible in this way. Mothers, especially, carry a strength that often goes unspoken. They adapt, endure, and love with a depth that can’t be measured. Alexis embodies that kind of strength so beautifully. There’s a quiet courage in her, a steadiness that speaks volumes without needing to say a word.
This session was also especially meaningful to me for another reason—this is the second time Alexis and Colin have welcomed me into their home to photograph their newborn baby. There’s something so special about being invited back into a family’s life during such intimate, transformative moments. It’s not just about documenting a new baby; it’s about witnessing growth, change, and the deepening of love over time. And watching their first newborn hold their second…goodness! All the feels!
Their home feels like a reflection of who they are—warm, calm, and full of intention. Watching them step into this new chapter, now as parents again, was such a gift. There’s a confidence that comes with experience, but also a renewed tenderness as they embrace this new little life. And seeing them together, supporting one another, caring for their newborn with such gentleness—it’s the kind of thing that reminds you what really matters.
Sessions like this aren’t about perfection. They’re about truth. The quiet moments, the sleepy snuggles, the way a parent instinctively soothes their child. They’re about honoring the journey it took to get here—the challenges, the resilience, the love that carried everything forward.
I left their home feeling incredibly grateful. Grateful to have witnessed Alexis’s strength, to have seen their family grow, and to have been trusted once again with something so personal.
I truly love photographing people on their life’s journey—being there for the chapters that shape them, the moments that define them, and the stories that deserve to be remembered. Congrats again, you guys! Now you’re a family of FOUR!
