Somers Mansion Wedding Venue

The Somers Mansion wedding venue is just south of Kalispell, Montana. There you will find a soft yellow mansion settled on top of a grassy knoll overlooking Flathead Lake. It’s surrounded by trees and mountains and as I visited it for the first time to capture Jason & Melissa’s wedding, I couldn’t help but smile about its beauty. A place like this is so unique in Montana, and I was so excited to have been invited to capture a wedding for a couple I’ve never met!

First, let me back up a bit. I never agree to shoot weddings without meeting the couple. Call me crazy, but I love building a relationship before I shoot! However, when Jason reached out through a mutual friend, I knew I was going to be in the area the very next day because I was supposed to go on a 20-mile hike in Glacier. They were only looking to hire me for 2 hours, so I excitedly agreed…but I had never shot an entire wedding in 2 hours!

So, I packed my camera gear along with my hiking backpack and showed up at the most beautiful wedding on a smokey day in August. Little did I know what an amazing couple and wedding was before me!

When I first met Jason, he welcomed me with a warm smile and was excited to marry his sweet bride, Melissa. Both arrived together and we whisked away on a road below the mansion to hide from the guests so we could take a few portraits before the ceremony.

Knowing we only had 2 hours together, I threw all the timeline stress of normal weddings out the window and simply had FUN and captured the essence of this sweet couple’s day! What a gift it was for ME to have been a part of their celebration, and I left feeling family not a photographer!
